From the north

Here’s the backroads diagonal from 91 (exit 24) in Whately. Take Route 5/10 south. Right onto Swamp Road. Left onto North Road. At Whately Inn, right onto Haydenville Road. Keep going, as road becomes Mountain Street, then (briefly) High Street. At T, turn right (west) onto Route 9. Follow as from Northampton, below.

From the south

Another backroads shortcut; this one makes us just over a half hour from the Masspike (I-90) exit 4 (the Route 91 Springfield/Holyoke exit). Once on 91N, make the next (immediate!) exit 15 Ingleside/Westfield Road. Left at ramp. At second light, turn right onto Homestead Avenue. First light left on Westfield Road/Route 202. Continue straight through next lights (at second, cross Rte 10 and leave 202) onto North Road. Continue for several miles. At a stop sign turn left onto Wyben Road. Take next right (at a triangle of flowers in season) Montgomery/Main Road. Go up and down through village of Montgomery, continuing on to Huntington. Take right (north) at T with Rte 112. Stay on 112 for about 7 miles. After Worthington sign, take first right over small bridge (mailboxes on right) onto Ireland St. Very shortly bear left onto Conwell Road. Last house on left.

From Northampton

Two routes, the first more populated (and with gas on the way): Take Route 9 West through Williamsburg. Left on to Route 143; up hill and down through Chesterfield. Left onto Ireland Street, at bottom of hill, by the river. Bear left to stay on Ireland Street where road forks. Sharp right onto Conwell Road after going downhill.

or

From Main Street, take a left onto Route 66 at the gates of Smith College. Continue on 66 through Westampton into Huntington. At T, turn right (north) onto Route 112; go about 5 miles and continue as from the south, above.

From the Berkshires

From exit 2 on the Pike: Take a left onto route 20 East. Follow for about 24 miles to the center of Huntington. Left onto route 112 north; go 8.7 miles and continue as from the south, above.

or

Travel east on Route 9 from Pittsfield. After the Old Creamery Grocery, take your first right onto Fairgrounds Road. Continue on this road, from Cummington to West Chesterfield, until you reach Route 143 at the river. Cross 143 straight onto Ireland Street. From here, follow directions as from Northampton.
